Medical Emergency Flight Booking

Stretcher Cases

If a patient needs to travel by stretcher:

1. Contact the airline directly — stretcher bookings require special arrangement (3-6 regular seats are blocked)
2. Medical fitness certificate from doctor required
3. A medical attendant must travel with the patient
4. Airlines need 48-72 hours advance notice minimum
5. Cost: Typically 6x regular fare (for seat blocking)

Oxygen Requirements

• Airlines can provide supplementary oxygen on request (48h advance notice)
• Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) allowed with airline pre-approval
• Personal oxygen cylinders are NOT allowed on aircraft
• Provide airline with doctor's letter specifying oxygen flow rate needed

Pregnancy & Flying

• Up to 28 weeks: Normal booking, no medical certificate needed
• 28-36 weeks: Medical fitness certificate required (within 7 days of travel)
• After 36 weeks: Most airlines do not allow flying
• High-risk pregnancy: Doctor clearance needed at all stages

Wheelchair Assistance Types

• WCHR: Wheelchair to/from aircraft door (can walk short distances)
• WCHS: Wheelchair to/from seat (cannot climb stairs)
• WCHC: Full wheelchair service (immobile, needs help to seat)

All airlines provide wheelchair service free of charge. Request during booking or at the airport counter.
