The Andaman Islands offer some of India's most pristine beaches, crystal-clear water, and world-class diving. It's more accessible than you think — direct flights connect Port Blair to major cities.

How to Get There

All flights land at Veer Savarkar International Airport (IXZ) in Port Blair. No international flights — you must fly from an Indian city.

Budget hack: Chennai and Kolkata are the cheapest gateways. If you're from Delhi or Mumbai, consider flying to Chennai first, then to Port Blair.

  • October-May: Best weather, calm seas, clear water for diving. Peak tourist season.
  • December-January: Absolute peak — highest prices and crowds. Book 6-8 weeks ahead.
  • June-September: Monsoon — many ferries suspended, water activities limited. Cheapest flights.
  • Best value: October-November and February-March (good weather, lower prices than Dec-Jan).

Island Hopping Itinerary (7 Days)

  • Day 1-2: Port Blair — Cellular Jail, Ross Island, North Bay (snorkeling)
  • Day 3-5: Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep) — Radhanagar Beach (#1 in Asia), scuba diving, Elephant Beach
  • Day 6: Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep) — Natural bridge, Laxmanpur Beach, laid-back vibe
  • Day 7: Return to Port Blair — Last-minute shopping, return flight

Inter-Island Transport

  • Government ferries: Rs. 400-700 per trip (book at andamanferryservice.com)
  • Private ferries (Makruzz, Nautika): Rs. 1,200-2,000 per trip — more comfortable, faster
  • Book ferries in advance during peak season — they sell out!

Scuba Diving

  • Best spots: Havelock (Wall, Lighthouse), Neil, Barren Island (volcano dive!)
  • Cost: Rs. 3,500-5,000 for a single dive, Rs. 25,000-35,000 for PADI course
  • Visibility: Best December-April (20-30 meter visibility)

Essential Tips

  • Permit: Indian citizens don't need a special permit for main islands
  • Cash: Carry enough cash — ATMs are limited outside Port Blair
  • Internet: BSNL has the best coverage. Other networks are spotty outside Port Blair.
  • Sunscreen: SPF 50+ is essential — the tropical sun is intense
