Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) is India's third busiest airport, serving as the gateway to India's IT capital. The new Terminal 2 is a stunning addition, but knowing which terminal you need is essential.
Terminal Assignments
Terminal 2 is inspired by Bangalore's "Garden City" identity — with indoor gardens, natural light, and one of the most beautiful domestic terminals in India.
Getting to the City
- Airport Metro (Blue Line): Airport → MG Road in 55-60 min. Rs. 70-90. The BEST option now.
- BMTC Bus (Vayu Vajra): AC buses to Majestic, Whitefield, Electronic City. Rs. 200-300.
- Ola/Uber: To MG Road: Rs. 600-1,200. To Whitefield: Rs. 500-800. Heavy surge during peak hours.
- Prepaid taxi: Rs. 800-1,500 to city center
Distance Problem
Bangalore airport is 35-40 km from the city center. This is the farthest major airport from its city in India. Traffic on Bellary Road can be brutal.
- Non-peak: 45-60 min drive
- Peak hours (8-10 AM, 5-8 PM): 90-120 min drive
- Metro (recommended): Fixed 55 min regardless of traffic
Lounges
- T2: Above Ground Level (AGL) — Bangalore's best lounge. Encalm Privé for premium experience.
- T1: Plaza Premium, TFS Lounge
- Access: Credit cards (HDFC, SBI, Axis) or walk-in (Rs. 1,500-2,500)
Pro Tips
- Take the metro: Since 2024, the airport metro eliminates traffic uncertainty
- Early morning flights: Less traffic + cheaper Ola/Uber
- T2 is worth seeing: Even if your flight is from T1, consider visiting T2 for the architecture
- Charging: Both terminals have abundant charging points
- Pre-book Ola/Uber: Book 10 min before landing for faster pickup
