Bassinet Seats — How to Get a Free Baby Bed on Your Flight

Updated June 25, 2026 | 3 min read

Long flight with a baby? Bassinets are wall-mounted baby beds available on most international flights. They're FREE — but limited. Here's how to get one.

Which Airlines Offer Bassinets

  • Air India: International flights on 787/A350/777. Free, must request at booking
  • Emirates, Singapore Airlines, Etihad: All international flights. Book early
  • IndiGo, SpiceJet, Akasa: Domestic LCCs do NOT offer bassinets
  • ⚠️ Weight limit: Usually 10 kg / 9 months (varies by airline)

How to Get One

  1. 📞 Call the airline immediately after booking — online booking often doesn't have the option
  2. 💺 Request bulkhead row — bassinets attach to the wall in front of you
  3. 🏃 Check in early — bassinet seats are first-come-first-served at some airlines
  4. 📧 Confirm 48 hrs before — call again to make sure it's reserved

Domestic Flights (No Bassinet)

  • 👶 Under 2 hours? Hold baby on your lap with the infant seatbelt
  • 💡 Choose bulkhead anyway: More space to handle baby, no one in front to disturb
  • 🍼 Feed during takeoff/landing: Prevents ear pain — see our ear guide
