Boarding Groups — What Zone 1 Actually Means

Updated June 25, 2026 | 3 min read

"Now boarding Zone 1!" — and half the plane stands up. What do these zones mean, and is priority boarding worth ₹400?

How Boarding Works

  1. 👶 Pre-boarding: Wheelchair users, families with infants, special assistance
  2. 💎 Priority: Business class, frequent flyers, paid priority boarding
  3. 1️⃣ Zone 1: Usually back rows (30+) — board first to reduce aisle congestion
  4. 2️⃣ Zone 2: Middle rows (15-29)
  5. 3️⃣ Zone 3: Front rows (1-14) — board last but exit first!

Is Priority Boarding Worth It?

  • Yes if: You have a carry-on and need overhead bin space (fills up fast on full flights)
  • Yes if: You're in Zone 3 and worried about luggage space
  • No if: You just have a backpack — skip it and save ₹400
  • No if: The flight isn't full — there'll be space anyway

💡 Pro Tip

Zone 3 (front rows) boards LAST but exits FIRST. If you value a quick exit over bin space, choose front rows and skip priority boarding.
