Motion Sickness — How to Stop Feeling Sick on Flights

Updated June 25, 2026 | 3 min read

Nausea, dizziness, cold sweats — motion sickness on flights is real and affects ~15% of passengers. The good news: it's very preventable.

Prevention (Before the Flight)

  • 💊 Avomine/Dramamine: Take 30-60 min before boarding. Available at any pharmacy
  • 🫚 Ginger: Natural anti-nausea. Ginger candy, ginger tea, or ginger capsules
  • 🍽️ Eat light: Don't fly on an empty OR very full stomach
  • 🚫 Avoid alcohol: Makes everything worse at altitude

During the Flight

  • 💺 Seat over the wing: Least turbulence. Rows 15-25 on most planes
  • 👀 Look at the horizon: Focus on a fixed point — don't read or look at your phone
  • 🌬️ Air vent ON: Turn the overhead vent to blow cool air on your face
  • 🤢 Barf bag: They're in every seat pocket. No shame — it happens

Best Seats for Motion Sickness

  • Window seat over wing: You can look outside + least movement
  • Worst: Rear seats, especially aisle — most turbulence and no horizon view
