Smoking on Flights — Don't. Here's What Happens.

Smoking on an aircraft is a criminal offence under Indian law. No cigarettes, no e-cigarettes, no vapes, no heating devices. Zero tolerance.

The Law

  • ⚖️ Section 25 of Aircraft Rules: Smoking on board is illegal
  • 💰 Fine: Up to ₹1,00,000 (₹1 lakh)
  • 🔒 Imprisonment: Up to 2 years in some cases
  • 🚫 No-fly list: Airlines can ban repeat offenders for up to 2 years

What's Included

  • 🚬 Regular cigarettes: Obviously banned
  • 💨 E-cigarettes & vapes: Banned in India entirely — carrying them is illegal
  • 🔥 Heated tobacco: Also prohibited
  • 🚽 Bathroom? Smoke detectors in lavatories. They WILL catch you. Don't try

At the Airport

  • Smoking zones exist outside terminals at most airports
  • Inside terminal: No smoking anywhere
  • 💡 Nicotine patches/gum: Allowed on board — plan ahead for cravings
