Every booking site pushes travel insurance. Is it a scam or a lifesaver? The honest answer: it depends entirely on the trip.
When It's WORTH IT ✅
- 🌍 International trips: Medical emergencies abroad cost lakhs. Insurance covers Rs. 10-50 lakhs for Rs. 500-1,500
- 💰 Expensive trips: If your total trip cost exceeds Rs. 50,000, protecting it for Rs. 500 makes sense
- 🏥 Pre-existing conditions: If health risks exist, medical evacuation alone justifies the cost
- 📅 Non-refundable bookings: Hotel + activity prepayments that can't be cancelled
When It's a WASTE ❌
- ✈️ Domestic flights under Rs. 5,000: The insurance costs 10% of the ticket. Just book a new one
- 🔄 Refundable tickets: If your ticket is already refundable, why insure it?
- 🏠 Weekend domestic trips: Low-stakes trips don't need insurance
What's NOT Covered (Read the Fine Print)
- ❌ You changed your mind about traveling
- ❌ You missed your flight because you were late
- ❌ Pre-existing conditions (unless specifically covered)
- ❌ Adventure sports (unless add-on purchased)
