Updated June 25, 2026 | 4 min read

Your power bank could get confiscated at security. Here are the exact rules so you don't lose yours.

The Rules

Power Bank SizeCabin BagCheck-in
Under 100 Wh (≈27,000 mAh)✅ Allowed❌ Banned
100-160 Wh (27,000-43,000 mAh)⚠️ Airline approval needed❌ Banned
Over 160 Wh (43,000+ mAh)❌ Banned❌ Banned

⚠️ Critical: NEVER put power banks in check-in luggage

Power banks are lithium-ion batteries. They must ALWAYS go in cabin baggage. Checked luggage with power banks will be flagged and the bag may be opened or held back.

How Many Can You Carry?

  • Maximum 2 power banks per passenger (under 100 Wh each)
  • They must be for personal use only — no commercial quantities
  • No damaged power banks — swollen or cracked batteries will be confiscated

How to Check Wh Rating

Look at the label on your power bank. It will show either:

  • Wh (Watt-hours): Directly compare to the 100 Wh limit
  • mAh + V: Calculate Wh = mAh × V ÷ 1000. Example: 20,000 mAh × 3.7V = 74 Wh ✅

Popular Power Banks — Are They Allowed?

  • 10,000 mAh (37 Wh) — Allowed
  • 20,000 mAh (74 Wh) — Allowed
  • ⚠️ 30,000 mAh (111 Wh) — Need airline approval
  • 50,000 mAh (185 Wh) — Banned
