This is the most debated rule in aviation. Who gets the armrests? The answer is simple — and universally agreed upon by frequent flyers.
The Rule
- 🪟 Window seat: Gets the wall, the view, and the LEFT armrest
- 🚶 Aisle seat: Gets the legroom, easy bathroom access, and the RIGHT armrest
- 💺 Middle seat: Gets BOTH armrests. That's their consolation prize
Why This Makes Sense
The middle seat has the worst deal — no wall to lean on, no legroom, no easy exit. The two armrests are the only thing that makes it bearable. If you're in window or aisle, you already have perks. Share the armrests.
Other Unwritten Rules
- 🎒 One overhead bin space per person — don't hog space with 3 bags
- 🔇 Headphones are mandatory for videos — no speakerphone ever
- 💺 Recline gently — see our reclining seat guide
- 🚶 Let people exit by row — don't rush the aisle
